discontinued. After reading many contradictory reports, it appears Asus is NOT discontinuing the 8.9″ models. However, the 8.9″ size will eventually be marketed to developing nations and to the industry sector. So even though the 8.9″ Asus netbook size should still be available for a while, It could still become no longer available in your area. A couple of technical rants. First, I’m not happy with the sound quality of my narration. I’ve been experimenting with different settings on my …

Nice vid man puts a difference to the 900 to the 1000

I’m still using my 900HA, though it’s falling apart. I foolishly walked into a wall while holding it (it was dark), cracking the right rear corner off. Then, it fell one story onto a hardwood floor. But it still works!
I’m waiting for the T91MT (8.9″ tablet, Z520, multitouch, Windows 7), though I’ve given a lot of consideration to the HP Mini 311 (Atom N280, ION graphics). The only thing I don’t like is the large size (11.6″), but going from GMA950 to 9400M graphics would be a nice upgrade.

Very clever review! Trying to decide on a netbook myself. I wanted the Samsung Go N310 because I read about it’s great 6 cell battery… Turns out that’s only in the USA, not Ireland or the UK. Bummer.

My aging eyes prefer 10″ notebooks.
But definitely Asus should keep making 8.9″ netbooks. It may be only an inch smaller, but that dropped inch has a huge impact on the unit’s overall size and portability.

8.9inch screens are the perfect size for netbooks, 10.1-11 are starting to get a little bulky, edging more towards sub notbook not really netbook. Asus need to update there 8.9inch line up not end it. the best Eee was the 900a perfect for mobility, harddrives are a bad idea for mobility

cool i might get the 1000he i really like it
May 9th, 2010 at 2:57 am
Nope! It’s still being used as my office computer!
My next review might be a Supermicro 5015A-H rackmount server. What’s different about it? It’s less than ten inches deep, and it’s powered by an Atom processor!

Sorry. Not unless someone can give me a loaner. I’ve purchased enough equipment this year.

could you please do a video review comparison between 1000HE and 1005HA? even though the specs of the 1005 are supposedly better i’ve heard it’s less comfortable to use and less reliable…
Thanks!

Asus does consistently improve their product lines as they release new models, so don’t hesitate to check out the 1005HA with the 10.5 hour battery especially if it’s less expensive than the 1000HE. The 10.5 hour battery should last about 6.5 hours under realistic battery use, which is excellent.

I was wondering which of the two is better:
ASUS eee pc 1005HA
or the ASUS eee pc 1000HE.
they both appear to have the same specs but which is the better one as 1005HA is newer but less expensive.

For the recording software, look no further than Audacity. It’s free, and it works.

Very well done, sir! I’ve been spending the past hour and a half watching 1000HE reviews on YouTube, as I ordered one today. Yours is my favourite, by far!
The Canadian perspective is also greatly appreciated, though I’m hoping my eee’s keyboard is not the busy-looking bilingual one.
Coincidentally, I was thinking of using my eee for mobile recording/mixing with my Xenyx mixer and same Behringer USB interface. Glad to know the machine can handle it well.
Thanks for the fine work!

Sorry. The HF200 comment was for the camcorder shoot-out video.
June 6th, 2010 at 6:39 pm
Except that the frame rate is all screwed up. The resolution of the original video is 960×540 at 30fps. YouTube’s video processors can’t handle that unconventional resolution even though it’s officially called one-quarter HD.
I chose that resolution because the final video will play back properly on Intel A110 based UMPCs.
June 8th, 2010 at 10:40 pm
Actually, 1080i doesn’t really have a standard horizontal resolution. It can be 1920 just as it can be 1440.
The dining room table scenes were all recorded on a 1440×1080i HDV tape based Canon HV20. The HF200 footage was recorded at the highest possible quality setting at 1920×1080i.

Radio Martini for the credits, Acid Trumpet (a.k.a. Acid Jazz) for the background music. You’ll need to overlap Acid Jazz just a bit if you want it to loop properly.
