    This should be possible.
But dont expect that 7 is too capable with 1 gig of ram.

It really depends on what you want, I guess. I really hope to give my EeePC a nice performance boost by switching to Ubuntu. There are some applications I need (i.e. Firefox and Internet Explorer) that take too long to start-up.
However, I got to say that Win7 works really well on the EeePC, feels a little like it was cut-out for it.
I think it’s a matter of taste here, use what makes you feel comfourtable, consider a more secure and stable OS only if you intend to do important work with it :P

I do have Win 7 on it and it’s actually pretty good, better than I expected but I am not sure if Win 7 is a good choice to be fully used, yet. Linux is more secure , more stable and I think that it would run MUCH more smoothly on the EeePC than Win7. However, I do agree with you that Windows OS’ are usually more comfortable and compared to Linux a lot more userfriendly. For instance, it’s pretty much impossible to use Linux without ever having to use the command line.

I find it difficult to allot the graphics card more than 11 MB of memory (I just don’t know how to do it); if I could make it take the full 224 MB it can take, I am sure watching videos and playing those simple games on the Net at the same time would be no problem.

I am still on Windows mainly because I do not have time to experiment with a new OS as well as because I seem to be a bit more lazy – conservative, too?… – than I generally like to think I am.
I had also been sort of considering upgrading to Win7 when your comment came; what is it that makes you uncomfortable about using it?

It is a matter of personal choice. I know Linux because of a friend, who is a specialist in computers and whom I trust completely; if he only uses Linux it is because Linux is very reliable. What I myself have primarily learnt is that Linux beats Windows because, if you run Linux (and you can do so even from a CD/DVD!), your computer will not get infected with viruses; and secondly, because of price (Linux comes free, Windows costs a small fortune).

I was thinking about installing Linux on it ( Ubuntu ), why would you not recommened doing so? I like XP and would not mind using it but my EeePC got Win7, which I am not very fond of :/

How do you allot more memory to its onboard graphics card?

P.S. You can also get a 3-Cell 23Wh battery, but who would go for 4 hours of battery life instead of at least twice that much? And apparently the netbook could have Linux instead of WinXP; but, for a number of reasons, I would not consider that.

No problem, of course. Just saw the wrong number in more than one comment.
1005 came after 1008. In the world of netbooks, it is very high-end. And there are two versions of it (1005HA): the 105x (8.5 hours of battery life) and the 136x (10.5 hours of battery life). Other than that (48Wh battery vs 63Wh battery) and camera resolution (0.3M Pixel vs 1.3M Pixel), the two models are identical.

All the keys on the netbook I tried felt and sounded exactly the same. No problem whatsoever.

i need the opinon of a asus 1005ha user. I had the laptop and sent it back. One thing that i thought was that the keyboard felt very cheap. Keys round the outside area of the keyboard sounded normal however keys in the middle area just about all the letters, sounded funny. Like they werent linked into there sockets properly. Can someone tell me if this normal with them/ would really like to know. Thanks
