the processor (latest Intel Atom N280) is pretty fast but the bottleneck in this netbook is the integrated graphics GMA950 that has no T&L (Transform & Lighting) so this job has to be done by the CPU.
they should have chosen the newer chipset i965GM (instead of the oldish i945GM) that has the integrated graphics X3100 with T&L.
i’ve never seen a running 1000HE but i suspect that CoD2 and TF2 will lag pretty much.
Hi, I’m wondering whether this netbook can play HD video streaming from youtube smoothly like mostly any regular notebook can do. I really wanna buy this but still not sure for the web HD video streaming quality.
Thanks for for the info on that…you’re right I found out the limitations…no big deal though.
I actually have hooked up an external monitor (Princeton ‘19), and it works really great…no problems at all. You can also bump the resolution up much higher, and in the process turn of the ASUS display greatly extending battery life and saving power.
Thanks for the advice. YM was choppy but I attribute that to the slow connectivity my wife had in the Philippines. I have never try Skype for webcam chat but will give it a go.
Memory installation is is a breeze. As notdone indicated, memory/cpu intensive application are out of the question (ie., gaming, video editing). However you can watch video files without hiccups. Its main use are for browsing, emailing and word processing. I have not hook up to an external monitor so I can’t comment on that aspect.
Thanks for that…. I pretty much guess that would be the case…Thanks for the tip about Audacity…had not thought about that. Actually, better yet, like your doing, render the file and then later tweak in Pro Tools on the PC…that could work!
Great review here…was it easy to install the memory card? I was wondering, can you run certain peripheral programs that are memory intensive…such as on a regular home PC…one in particular I’m referring to is call Pro Tools…Thanks
Also how does it work with an external monitor OK? Thanks…Walt
Very nice review, we hope your wife has a safe and fruitful trip.
Seeing her face and hearing her voice by way of webcam just might help with missing her so much as I know I would miss my sweetie if she went over sea’s.

sorry to say, but editing and recording software is probably out of the question.
Those programs are typically very resource intensive, and the atom processor is not enough to keep up.
cubase le struggles pretty hard as it is, so I’m forced to use audacity for on the go recording and quick editing.
