Asus EEE 1000HD Review

Anyone surprised that Asus released a new 1000 netbook? Neither were we. It’s getting hard to keep up with all the different models that Asus has released but this is just another one. The Asus EEE 1000HD has the standard 10 inch screen that we have been accustomed to in the 1000 series. This is your same screen that you will find on the rest of the Asus 1000 series, coming in at a 1024 x 600 resolution.

ASUS Eee PC 1000HD 10-Inch Netbook (900 MHz Intel Celeron M 353 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 80 GB Hard Drive, Linux, 6 Cell Battery) Fine Ebony

Our Asus EEE 1000HD Specifications:

  • 900 MHz Intel Celeron M 353
  • 1 GB DDR2
  • Linux
  • 10” screen, 1024 x 600 LED backlit
  • 80 GB hard disk drive
  • Draft-N Wi-Fi (802.11b/g/n), 10/100 Fast Ethernet
  • 6-cell (6600 mAh), up to 4.6 hours
  • 3.19 lbs

As with the rest of the series the ability for upgrades are easy, and don’t void your warranty. Easy access allows for even the most basic users to upgrade with ease and convenience. I personally think that this is one of the best aspects of the Asus. The other netbooks that we have tested either have extremely hard access to RAM and the hard drives, and usually void their warranties. Not Asus!

Keep in mind that the 1000HD comes with Linux rather then Windows XP Home. This may be alright for some, but for those that need Windows then you will need to look somewhere else. The next best thing with Windows is the Asus 1000H, which comes with Windows XP and 160 GB HDD and the Intel Atom 1.6 GHz.

Overall the Asus 1000HD is a great solution for those that need a cheaper version of the 1000H. It does include the same case, screen, and keyboard as the other series but lacks the power, OS and hard drive size of the 1000H for example.
